Aaron Miles is gone! Not only gone, but about as far away as we could send him! (Mariners said no?) There will be no more promises to win us over, no more worthless pinch hit at-bats, no more masculinity-affirming beards, no more promises of pots of gold just beyond a rainbow and no more shoving Lucky Charms down our throats.
But as goes Miles, so goes Foxy. I figured it would happen this winter, but I hoped it would be for a guy that at least leads the search results when his name is googled. (You win again, Dr. Jeff Gray of the University of Alabama.)
Fresh meat: the aforementioned Jeff Gray - no, not the associate professor, research group or cosmetic dentist (though while we're on the subject, it wouldn't hurt his Leprechauness to swing by Dr. Jeff's office on his way to Oakland for a snaggleteethectomy), and two minor leaguers who do get top priority in Google.
Did I mention Aaron Miles is gone? Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.

Has Christmas come early???? I guess we were good boys and girls this year!
Adios Sir Miles. Hope the Cali sun does something for your jacked up grill.
I will miss Foxy but I think we all know he is best suited for the AL. I really hope this works out well for him. I'll continue to be a Jake Fox fan!
I'll miss Foxxy Jake, but Miles, is miles and miles away, and that almost makes up for losing Jake.
My wish for Christmas is to get someone in a trade that I have actually heard of, preferablly for MB.
JJ...it's like you're reading my mind...that's exactly what I just blogged about.... :)
Good to see Miles go, but Fox I wish we could have kept, but he is better off going to the AL, he could be a great DH.
I now have the Winger song "Miles Away" in my head.
Do my eyes deceive me or did I just read a Winger reference?
This is how sad I am - not sad as in boo hoo cuz really who could be that kinda sad when just learning that the Cubs are now free of that fake #7....oh no sad as in pathetic. I read online somewhere that Foxy Jake and Aaron Miles were trade and I had to come here to confirm it! So yes Jen is now officially my source for all things news related:)
IHDR! How are you!!!
You did indeed see a Winger reference. You're welcome. ;)
Uh KD? Are you even old enough to know who Winger was?
Hey I got the coolest shirt at a thrift store today - pink and white and reads "Wrigley Field Hottie". Since it's about the right size for a 4th grader, I'm making a purse or bag of some sort out of it. But how cool, huh?
IHDR, hi!!! And a few things - that is going to make one bitchin' (that's right, I said bitchin') purse - it'll sell like...well, even better than hotcakes. I'm not sure I'm up to the task of being your official source of Cubs news though. I'm see myself as more your one stop show for penis talk. Speaking of, who's gonna be the man candy to wear that #7 next?
JJ, I'm scared to think of the lengths I would've gone to in order to dispose ourselves of Aaron Miles. But if I had thought about it, it would involve a sock o'nickels, the trunk of my car and an empty grave in an undisclosed location. I guess Foxxy took one last one for the team.
Blue, with Foxxy moving closer to you, maybe you'll get to see him DH at an A's game, no?
KD, I'm heading over to your blog now to talk about the rest of our Christmas list. After we're done with the Milty stuff, can we ask Santy to reach into his bag for more (but less disturbing) nudie player pics?
Hi Jen, I'm not much of an A's fan, but that would be cool to see a former Cub swinging for the fences in Oakland.
I'm still hearing rumours of Granderson as a Cubbie, what have you heard there?
Nice post, but it aint Christmas yet. I have yet to see where the Cubs have improved their roster. Unfortunately it's not as simple as sending Miles packing... As much as he was hated by Cubs fans, he was easily replaced in the lineup. I think it's a bit early to be celebrating.
Granderson, Cameron are still on the rumour block... However, it won't matter much either way if we dont have pitching, or if Alfonzie and Fukodome do not step it up a notch in 2010.
Not to rain on the parade over here, but the last 100 years havent given me much hope. I am a Cubs fan and therefore a fatalist. The 'Wait til next year' cry has become nothing more than a feeble attempt at comedy, and I can't rally around that anymore. I am sick of speculation, I want to see results.
Christmas is around the corner, but I'd rather have a happy new year...
I like your blog, Jen. I thought this post was especially witty and well written. Of all the Cubs blogs I frequent, I thought you had the best take on the Miles departure.
Blue, same here. To be honest, I'm not really paying much attention to the outfielder rumors. I guess because there's that huge hurdle of dumping MB and his oodles of Monopoly money before we can - I'm hoping that'll be our big Christmas present under the tree.
Thanks Gooseneck, I think the one thing all Cubs fans could agree on is that Aaron Miles is the scourge of baseball. I'm really worried about our pitching too. Seems like we have a lot of "ifs" in that rotation - "if Ted will be ready in April?", "if Randy can repeat?", "if Demp will bounce back?", "if Z will eat his bananas and not go bananas?"
I saw the following headline and almost spit out my Diet Dr Pepper:
"Five Teams Interested In Kevin Gregg?"
So Pat Burrell was a Cub for a second, then off to the Mets he went.
I'm seeing rumors that MB has been traded, got any word on that one Jen?
KD, that headline was cut off. It really reads "Five teams interested in Kevin Gregg...to hang the angel on their Christmas trees". (Let's hope if there's any truth to that article, the five teams are as follows: Cardinals, Brewers, Astros, Reds, Pirates.)
Blue, w-w-w-what??? I haven't heard that. Last I knew we were still hoping to get him and flip him to the Mets, no?
Jen, I think they are all rumours for now. I've looked around and have not seen any confirmation on Burrell or MB.
I need to watch MLB Network and see if they have anything on there.
I've been on mlbrumors.com...hearing the same thing as Blue but nothing confirmed. I will continue to stalk baseball web sites all day until I hear Uncle Milty is no longer a Cub.
This is KD reporting live from St. Louis.
or "mlbtraderumors", rather. ;)
"This is KD reporting live from St. Louis.".....lol....nice, I like that.
Jen, since you are closer to the hub of all that is Chicago please let us know if you have any breaking news.
MLB Network is currently showing the Cubs vs. Cards from 1984, the Sandberg game, two hr's to win it for the Cubbies.
Rays, Rangers, Mets eyeing Bradley - per Cubs.com. They probably won't be willing to give up that much to get him, since all of MLB knows the Cubs are anxious to dump him.
Jen - I posted that Miles limerick you requested on Cubssalad. :-)
Sandberg game! Missed it, Blue, but I think they should show it 24 hours straight, like "A Christmas Story".
I know JJ, I don't know how Hendry thinks he has any leverage. :eye roll: And it looks like the Yanks grinched Granderson right off our wish list. Assholes.
Ok, so it looks to me as if MB will end up with Tampa Bay, but not anytime soon, more like later on down the road when the Cubs will have to give up an arm and two legs to get rid of him.
Guess we really can't blame them for this mess - what obligation are they under to clean up our trainwreck? *sigh*
Hey Jen, maybe we'll get hot dog launcher out of the deal....lol
:D!!! DEAL!
I'm still bitter about Granderson going to the Empire....damn, he would have made a great Cubbie.
I had to check out People of Walmart to get a few laughs....lol
