Blum out of luck…(again!)

I gotta say after the freak luck the Cubs got today - including Oswalt's exit in the 2nd inning and a hit ball getting stuck in their relief pitcher's jersey - it's kind of embarrassing to not walk away with a win. (Not embarrassing on a level of getting beat by the Nationals two days in a row in your own park but nevertheless, embarrassing.) Even with Demp getting himself in [toe] jam after [toe] jam, the offense was there with some big bats at big times - including MB with a sac fly, Reeeeeeed with a two RBI pinch hit single and Rami with a three run homer.

Unlike last night, the pitching didn't dazzle tonight - after Demp's six runs in five innings (the toe, however, looked shiny & new) the bullpen gave up another four. Three of those runs probably could have been avoided but as everyone but Lou Piniella knows, Heilman religiously follows the motto "no man left behind" on the mound - he un-stranded a couple inherited runners and added one of his own. Sharkimija gave up a run in the ninth to make the deficit to...a grand slam & a half, which the offense couldn't overcome with the final three outs.

The Cubs face Old Man Winter. I'm sorry, that should have read Old Man Hampton.
